Perfect Pairs: Your Ideal Summer Cocktail And Music Playlist
Every Monday night, The Wayfarer in New York City hosts a sultry, sophisticated, and surprisingly intimate jazz performances in its upstairs lounge. Above the restaurant’s main dining room and soaring over the chaos of midtown, the room is bathed in crimson light. A singer takes the stage with her band. And once she lets out the first note of a jazz standard, you’re transported to a different place and time.
To toast the start of summer, we asked Eric Marx, a partner at The Wayfarer to pair a smoky and spicy cocktail with a jazz-inspired playlist. The combination will be sure to elevate your next dinner party.
“The North of the Border is the perfect cocktail to enjoy with jazz,” he says. “The smokiness from the mezcal pairs perfectly with the smooth tone that fills the room and the jalapeño gives you a kick. The bitters from the Green Chartreuse and Aperol keep the cocktail light so guests can stay a while.”
